0.5cuppepperoni slices (or your choice of toppings: bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, etc.)
1teaspoonaromatic Italian seasoning
2tablespoonsunsalted butter (divided)
Instructions
Start by evenly spreading 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce on one side of each slice of sourdough bread, making sure to cover the entire surface.
On two of the slices (with sauce side up), distribute 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly to create a gooey base.
Layer your selected toppings—such as pepperoni, bell peppers, or mushrooms—over the cheese, ensuring an even distribution. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning generously over the toppings to enhance the flavor.
Carefully place the remaining slices of bread on top of the prepared sandwiches, sauce side facing down, sealing in all the delicious ingredients.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter, allowing it to coat the bottom of the skillet evenly.
Place one of the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning!
Gently flip the sandwich using a spatula. If necessary, add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet at this point. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, bringing out a beautiful golden brown on the second side and ensuring the cheese is fully melted.
Carefully remove the sandwich from the skillet and set it aside. Repeat the cooking process with the second sandwich.
Once both sandwiches are perfectly grilled, slice them diagonally to expose the melty cheese and vibrant toppings. Serve warm with a small bowl of extra marinara sauce on the side for a delicious dipping option.
